Advanced Features for Enterprise-Wide Role-Based Access Control
نویسنده
چکیده
The administration of users and access rights in large enterprises is a complex and challenging task. Roles are a powerful concept for simplifying access control, but their implementation is normally restricted to single systems and applications. In this article we define Enterprise Roles capable of spanning all IT systems in an organisation. We show how the Enterprise Role-Based Access Control (ERBAC) model exploits the RBAC model outlined in the NIST standard draft[5] and describe its extensions. We have implemented ERBAC as a basic concept of SAM Jupiter, a commercial security administration tool. Based on practical experience with the deployment of Enterprise Roles during SAM implementation projects in large organisations, we have enhanced the ERBAC model by including different ways of parametrising the roles. We show that using parameters can significantly reduce the number of roles needed in an enterprise and simplify the role structure, thereby reducing the administration effort considerably. The enhanced ERBAC features are illustrated by reallife examples.

An Extended Role-based Access Control Model for Enterprise Systems and Web Services
This thesis intends to develop application-level access control models to address several major security issues in enterprise environments. The first goal is to provide simple and efficient authorization specifications to reduce the complexity of security management. The second goal is to provide dynamic access control for Web service applications. The third goal is to provide an access control...
متن کاملSpecification and Validation of Enterprise Access Control Data for Conformance to Model and Policy Constraints
The effectiveness of an enterprise access control framework depends upon the integrity of the various components or the building blocks used in that framework. The essential components of that framework are: (a) an Enterprise Access Control Model (b) a Validation mechanism to verify the enterprise access control data developed based on that model, for conformance to the model as well as domain-...
متن کاملA feature-based approach for modeling role-based access control systems
Role-based access control (RBAC) is a popular access control model for enterprise systems due to its flexibility and scalability. There are many RBAC features available, each providing a different function. Not all features are needed for an RBAC system. Depending on the requirements, one should be able to configure features on a need basis, which reduces development complexity and thus fosters...

Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) has proven as a cost effective as well as a practical solution for authorization management in large enterprises. In the recent past, RBAC has been widely explored and there have been several extensions to it. Current systems do not enforce standard RBAC features and its extensions in a seamless way, which is essential to make RBAC even better-suited for a wide ...

Role-based access control (RBAC) is a popular access control model for enterprise systems due to its economic benefit and scalability. There are many RBAC features available, each providing a different feature. Not all features are needed for an RBAC system. Depending on the requirements, one should be able to configure RBAC by selecting only those features that are needed for the requirements....
